LWVG 2021 Student Essay Contest

LWV Greenwich & Affiliate High School Clubs invite Greenwich students in grades K-12 to participate in our annual essay writing competition.




Essay Prompt: Dear Madam Vice President 

 

Essays due: Sunday, March 21st 2021

 

Award Presentation: Wednesday, May 2nd 2021

 



Contest Information:

In honor of America’s first female vice president, this year’s theme is “Dear Madam Vice President”.
Students are encouraged to write a letter to Vice President Harris, sharing their stories, advice, and wishes.


Students are asked to write an essay of up to five-hundred words and to email their submission to
our LWVG Student Outreach coordinator, Anne-Marie Hesser by Sunday, March 21.

 

A panel of high school students will follow an anonymous judging protocol to review the essays
and choose three winners: one each for elementary school, middle school, and high school.
Winners will be presented with their awards on
Wednesday, May 2 at the LWV Greenwich’s Annual Dinner at the Riverside Yacht Club.

 

Submit Essays by March 21st 2021 to Youthoutreach@LWVGreenwich.org

 

*** Please Note:  Children of LWV Greenwich Board Members are NOT eligible to participate ***

REINVENTING AMERICAN DEMOCRACY FOR THE 21st CENTURY

A virtual presentation and discussion of the findings of the Commission on the Practice of Democratic Citizenship of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
 
Speakers are Stephen B. Heintz, CEO and Chairman of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and Co-Chair of the Commission, and Dr. Norman Ornstein, Resident Scholar of the American Enterprise Institute.  Discussion to follow the presentation. 

Open to the public, no charge.  Zoom link will be sent to all registrants.
